Domino’s training reindeers to deliver pizza in northern Japan
RocketNews24 reports that Domino’s Japan is very seriously considering using reindeer to deliver their pizzas, thanks to the likelihood of blizzards, snow, and ice storms this winter.
Ever wished Rudolph and his mates could deliver your Christmas presents for real?
Domino’s was known for its experiments with delivering pizzas. In March, Dominoes introduced the first ever autonomous pizza-delivering drone.
This isn’t just a fun way to get customers into the Christmas spirit.
Reindeer were not in fact native to the northern area of Japan, but were actually brought to the island over 25 years ago from Finland.
Wow! The Domino’s app knows everything, including the name of the pizza delivery driver. Here in the United States, reindeer deliveries in places like Florida and California make no sense and chances are that animal rights groups would be all over the idea.
No word yet on whether US Domino’s customers can expect a reindeer at their door anytime soon. DRU is still being tested out, working out any kinks before officially unveiling the new system. What does the reindeer training involve specifically?
Following the completion of the training a full-scale rollout of reindeer will be implemented in December, according to the press release.
When the weather gets rough, you may be more tempted to order food for delivery. Domino’s has stated that it is taking “all possible steps” to ensure the reindeer’s welfare, and has been testing how much weight and distance each deer can comfortably manage. And whether it reaches you by bike, car, or reindeer it’s going to be delicious.
