Don Hutchison reacts on Twitter to Younes Kaboul’s defending v Manchester United
Advocaat took over the hard task of rescuing Sunderland’s season in March and performed a great escape.
The midfielder impressed as a second-half substitute in midweek, steadying the ship in the Capital One Cup defeat to Manchester City and replaced the injured Jack Rodwell. From top to bottom, Sunderland were outplayed to a man.
Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson and him shared jokes before the Dutchman’s Zenit St Petersburg beat Manchester United 2-1 in 2008, as per the Daily Star.
But they should have far more goals to their name than the six they have managed in seven league games so far.
But he showed promising signs after coming on as a half-time sub against Man City in the cup, and at Old Trafford, he returned to the starting line-up and was Yann M’Vila’s only challenger as Sunderland’s man of the match.
Results this season have been very poor though, with the Black Cats yet to win a game this season, and the manager is under pressure to turn things around.
This trip to Manchester United fell into the latter category.
With the defence clearly the worst of Advocaat’s worries, as the partnership of Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Coates continues to be the worst of the lot, Sunderland look set to recall 35-year-old Wes Brown to the starting line-up for the first time this season.
“We need to go there and really work as a team”.
“Jermain (Defoe) had a one v one at Bournemouth, Lens had a disallowed goal, against City there was Borini’s “goal”. Defoe, who was brought in by Gus Poyet to get goals, has missed several key chances in recent weeks and has come in for some criticism from a section of the support.
If, as expected, Sunderland fail to win at Old Trafford tomorrow, it will be the third season on the spin that the Black Cats have been unable to register a maiden Premier League victory during August and September.
The games are ticking by, and if Sunderland are not careful, they will find themselves adrift at the foot of the table.
