Don McLean attorney: Wife’s protection order case dismissed
The attorney for Don McLean said the American Pie singer and his wife have agreed to dismiss an order of protection case that followed his arrest on a domestic violence charge.
Don McLean was arrested early Monday at his home in Bangor, Maine and charged with domestic assault.
In a statement to the Knox County court in Maine, Patrisha requested an order of protection against Don for horrific abuse that has been ongoing for “10 years or so”.
The dismissal of the protection order case confirms that. McKee said his client will plead not guilty to the misdemeanor charge.
According to Billboard, Patricia’s written statement requesting the order said that there had been a pattern of abuse for the three decades that they were together. She said she called 911 on that occasion and that her husband, 70, has had better control over his temper in the last 20 years, except for his alleged violent outburst on Sunday.
“This now becomes a private matter between two very talented people”, McKee said. “What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an nearly 30-year relationship”, Don wrote. He also said he is “not a villain” and that it is an emotional time for his family. On Sunday, she asked McLean’s fans not to focus on his court case.
She wrote in a statement: “Don has a big heart. There are no winners or losers but I am not a villain”, he added.
“American Pie”, released in 1971, has often been ranked among the greatest songs in pop history with its account of the historical upheavals of the late 20th century. The song was about the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper in a plane crash on February 3, 1959 The Day the Music Died.
