Don McLean’s wife granted temporary protection order over domestic abuse claims
It led to police attending the scene and arresting the American Pie singer for domestic violence assault. She said McLean’s abuse often left her bruised, and that she feared for her life when she called 911 this week.
McLean is due back in court next month.
A jail supervisor says “American Pie” singer Don McLean has been arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Maine. His attorney, Walter McKee, said McLean will plead not guilty when the case returns to court.
“She wrote that in the early years of their marriage, McLean’s rage was ‘unfathomably deep and scary, ‘” the AP reports. The Pilot did not name the victim, but said she told authorities she has suffered abuse previously during her 30-year-long relationship with McLean.
Police later released a mug shot of McLean taken when he was booked in.
When Patrisha McLean was contacted by phone, she stated that his arrest was a serious matter.
Pat says Don squeezed her temples so hard her head still aches, and she says he’s done it before.
He was last in trouble three years ago. She also, according to legal documents obtained by gossip site TMZ, alleged that he had threatened her with a gun in the past, saying, “If I have a stroke (over her leaving him), I will get my gun and kill you”.
The 55-year-old called police to their home in Camden, Maine, at 2am on Sunday stating she had been terrorised for four hours.
McLean, who has lived in Camden since the early 1990s, argued the school zone warning lights weren’t flashing at the time but he was still fined.
