‘Don’t get it twisted’: Spike Lee responds to Chi-Raq trailer backlash
The trailer for the upcoming movie hit airwaves earlier this week (ends06Nov15) and many fans took to social media complaining about the film’s satirical premise, including rapper Rhymefest, who wrote, “I think it’s irresponsible”.
Now, the filmmaker has responded to critics by clarifying the film’s context and introducing a new clip.
Directed and co-written by Lee, “Chi-Raq” is a satire that centers on the women of Chicago withholding sex from their gang member boyfriends and husbands in an effort to stop the on-going warfare in the city. A few people are getting it twisted, and thinking this is a comedy.
“Chi-Raq is not a comedy”.
The “Chi-Raq” original motion picture soundtrack, which will feature music from Nick Cannon, Jennifer Hudson, R. Kelly, Mali Music ft. And there is a difference between humor and comedy.
“In no way shape or form are we not respectful of the situation that is happening in Chi-Raq”. In no way, shape or form are we making light of the lives who have been murdered in this senseless violence.
Lee released the trailer for his film last week. Lee laughs as easily as he gets serious, and says he’s profoundly touched by the film academy honor he’ll receive Saturday at the seventh annual Governors Awards. “Don’t get it twisted”.
