Don’t Speak: Beyoncé Doesn’t Utter A Single Word In Vogue Cover Story
So, instead of the usual interview that takes months of to-and-fro between the magazine’s editors and the celebrity’s publicist, Pulitzer-winning journalist Margo Jefferson settled with penning a short essay on her star quality. Beyoncé hasn’t really been directly answering questions for quite some time. “I had no contact with her camp”, Jefferson told the New York NY Times. The music superstar has the coveted cover in the huge September issue of Vogue, thus becoming the first female black musician-and only the third solo black woman-to land the spot, reports Billboard.
It may be unusual for Vogue, whose representatives declined to comment, but it is no longer unusual for Beyonce.
In a May piece about Beyoncé and Jay Z’s vegan diets, the New York Times only received correspondence from her via email: “Beyoncé, a representative explained, has not answered any direct questions for more than a year”.
This is pretty normal behaviour for Bey these days, as it’s been reported that she inexplicably stopped giving face-to-face interviews at some point between 2013 to 2014. Even if the public expects an unreasonable amount of disclosure from its icons, few of her fellow celebrities have followed her lead. And it seems the queen bee is so over being adored, that she wouldn’t even bless the fashion bible with so much as an interview for the story. “It’s a perfectly reasonable decision”.
Others see her choice as empowered.
Beyonce bounds 37-13 on the Social 50 chart (dated August. 29) with a little help from her daughter Blue.
