Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler Signed For UFC 205
It’s important to note that Lawler vs. Cerrone is not being tabbed as the main or co-main event, which means UFC 205 is set to be one of the greatest fight cards the company has ever put together.
It was recently rumored that a potential welterweight clash between former champion Robbie Lawler and former lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone was in the works for November 12’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden. When Cerrone heard that Lawler was looking for a fight at UFC 205, he immediately took to Twitter to offer his services. Even more impressive is that Cerrone won 12 of those fights, including eight by finish while securing placement in the lightweight and welterweight rankings along the way.
Cerrone (31-7, 1 NC) had his run to the lightweight champion ended by then-champion Rafael dos Anjos late previous year at UFC on FOX 17.
Lawler last competed at July 30’s UFC 201 from Atlanta, Georgia, where he surrendered his belt in brutal fashion at the hands of Tyron Woodley. It doesn’t get any faster than four months later, and Lawler will be eager to put on a show so that he can earn another shot at the 170-pound strap. The bout will be part of the event’s main card, though it will not serve as the headliner.
Cerrone comes into the bout on a red-hot streak with three straight wins since his February debut at 170 pounds.
Lawler, meanwhile, approaches with an eye on redemption.
