When Trump in February declined to condemn the Ku Klux Klan or decline the endorsement of former Klansman David Duke, Ryan joined a chorus of outraged establishment Republicans.

Ryan has stayed on the sidelines far too long as the most influential Republican in America and the most popular figure in the party. “Ryan’s not a big supporter of Trump, and Trump has a big debate coming up”, said Al Kiepert, 61. Foreshadowing a likely attack in Sunday night’s presidential debate, he also suggested that rival Hillary Clinton has committed greater sins against women.
