Donald Trump applauds new United Nations sanctions on North Korea

Saturday’s United Nations resolution banned exports of coal, iron and iron ore, lead and lead ore as well as fish and seafood by the cash-starved state. The UNSC had restricted the export of coal which is North Korea’s most exported item to $400 million in November from $1.2 billion that it used to make.

It remains to be seen whether the new sanctions will deter North Korea’s pursuit of advanced ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons or bring its leader Kim Jong Un to the negotiating table.
But Wang, the Chinese envoy, cast Ri’s presence in Manila as a positive, enabling him to “hear the voices from other sides”.
In a statement issued Friday, a copy of which was posted in the official website of the Chinese Embassy in Manila, Geng noted that the China-ASEAN relations have become “the most dynamic and substantive pair of relations” among ASEAN’s relations with its dialogue partners.
