Donald Trump: Black Pastor Defends Candidate, Says ‘Liberal Media’ Doesn’t
Trump flew to Georgia after meeting with dozens of black pastors in his Manhattan offices.
Trump said after Monday’s meeting that he would not change his tone as a candidate, which he said had taken him to “first position” in preference polls. But what they really want, Trump said, is firm and effective leadership. The billionaire reality TV star said he couldn’t have mocked Kovaleski because he had never seen him.
At a rally later Monday in Macon, Ga., Trump told a almost all-white audience of about 5,000 that the meeting was “inspiring” and “unbelievable”. “It was a really terrific day”, he stated.
Trump’s campaign had issued a press release last week that read: “Mr. Trump will be joined by a coalition of 100 African-American evangelical pastors and religious leaders who will endorse the GOP front-runner after a private meeting at Trump Tower”. This would be a fine strategy for a candidate seeking to boost his falling approval rating after his unsavory treatment of a Black Lives Matter protester, who was “roughed up” by Trump supporters at an Alabama rally.
The crowd seemed to love the idea, too, loudly cheering – although not almost as loud as they cheered when Trump said “dumbass politicians” only worry about being reelected.
‘I didn’t see any evidence of thousands, nor have I seen it since then, of thousands of people, ‘ he added.
Trump stumbled on religous questions earlier this year when he failed to name his favorite Bible verse and said he couldn’t recall asking God for forgiveness. “And he said that he would”.
“Sit down and shut up is a guy yelling and screaming at me in the middle of a speech”, Christie said. “So the thing was trying to be who he is, so you have to remain true to yourself”. “You shouldn’t be making fun of people’s disabilities”.
Trump continued to guarantee a wall on the border with Mexico to keep people from entering the USA illegally. Couzens said Trump apologized for nothing.
As soon as Donald Trump announced that he’d gained the endorsement of 100 black ministers from across the country on Monday, there were skeptics.
There was no wide-ranging endorsement from the group, some of whom had said they were surprised when the gathering was advertised as such by Trump’s campaign.
Black voters, he says, like Trump because he’s “speaking up” and “telling the truth”, and because he fights back when others go after him.
