Donald Trump calls Hillary Clinton ‘liar’ for Islamic State recruiting claim
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump demanded an apology from Hillary Clinton on Monday after she said the Islamic State used his comments to recruit fighters. “She’s got nothing”, Trump told NBC News as he made rounds over the popular Sunday talk shows.
Asked by a moderator, “Should corporate America love Hillary Clinton?”, she replied, “Everybody should”, declaring “I want to be the president for the struggling, the striving and the successful”, and “I want to be a partner with the private sector”. “She lies like insane about everything, whether it’s trips where she was being gunned down in a helicopter or an airplane”. “She lies about Whitewater”.
Sanders, who has been accused of avoiding foreign policy in favor of his economic message, spent much of the Democrats’ third debate parrying with Clinton on how to deal with the Islamic State and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Ms. Clinton was dinged by fact-checkers for claiming during the debate that the Islamic State terrorist group was using Mr. Trump in recruitment videos.
On “Meet the Press”, host Chuck Todd pressed Mr. Trump on his rhetoric and its possible benefit to terrorists, asking, “If you knew your words were being used, would you change your language?”
Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, clarified the candidate’s remarks yesterday on “This Week with George Stephanopolous”. The story also cites Rita Katz, an expert from the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors groups like ISIS on social media.
Responding to critics after the Russian President Vladimir Putin praised him, Trump said he is absolutely fine with the praise coming from Moscow.
Sanders apologized directly to Clinton and his supporters during Saturday night’s debate saying, “this is not the type of campaign that we run”. CNN’s Reality Check Team also found there was nothing to support Clinton’s claim of an ISIS video showing Trump. “That is a pledge that I’m making”, she said. “And that’s how you create a better relationship with Mr. Putin”. The first is that Trump and/or Carson, the consummate political outsiders, will remain at the top of the GOP field, with one or the other ending up as the nominee; the prospect makes some Republicans ecstatic and drives others into a near-clinical depression.
Several US media outlets including the Fox news today said there is no such video as of now.
Clinton quickly accepted the apology Saturday night, saying “We should move on because I don’t think the American people are all that interested in this”.
Appearing on an ABC News programme, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders alleged that Trump is a “pathological liar”.
Instead, he called for bringing together “the vast majority of the people” who believe in “sensible gun safety regulations”.
“I’ve noticed that most successful presidents are those that get elected in a time where they are suited to govern and she’s the best qualified person for the time at the moment that I’ve ever seen”, he said during the post-debate event.
The debate unfolded amid a minor scandal between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns over an apparent data breach when at least one Sanders staffer took advantage of a computer glitch to peek at Clinton voter information.
