Donald Trump calls it ‘sad’ that Hillary Clinton joining recount effort
Clinton’s campaign has said they will participate in the recount efforts Stein is spearheading.
Even Bernie Sanders, who said he didn’t oppose the recount, predicted its outcome would have no effect. It’s the last state to officially certify its election results and comes almost three weeks after Election Day.
Stein, who won about 1.0 percent of the national vote, has said she wants a recount to guarantee the integrity of the US voting system, a push that came after some computer scientists and election lawyers raised the possibility that hacks could have affected the results.
– Tom Salmon won the race for Vermont auditor in 2006 after he requested a recount.
Stein is also advocating for recounts to take place in Pennsylvania and MI.
Because of the numbers (below) if Stein fails to file in all three states for a recount, there is no way for Clinton to win.
The Presidential Transition Team did not respond to a question in this regard. Trump called the effort a “scam” aimed at filling the Green Party’s “coffers”. Those states must complete their recounts by a December 13 deadline set by the federal government. In other words, without the Electoral College method, the 2016 presidential election could have been won by New York, Florida and California. He isn’t the people’s champ; he’s the Electoral College’s champ, the same Electoral College he wanted to do away with.
But even fellow Democrats suggested that a recount was either a bad idea, or an ineffectual one. She has sought volunteers to file affidavits demanding a recount, as a candidate can force a recount only through a court intervention in the State.
“Personally, I’d like him to come down out of his Trump Tower and go off to Wautoma County and spend the time with the folks on the ground that are counting the votes”. Stein raised those concerns over the weekend.
Recounts aren’t cheap and each state has its own laws about who and what can trigger them.
Former Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders defended the recount effort underway in Wisconsin. His Michigan margin was a tiny 0.22 per cent of the state’s votes.
And unfortunately for those who support Stein’s efforts, nearly 80 percent of Pennsylvania’s counties use voting machines that do not leave a paper audit trail. Clinton, however, maintains a more than 2 million vote advantage in the popular vote count.
The next step in Stein’s recount efforts will be focused on MI whose filing deadline is Wednesday.
Could recount requests be rejected? .
State Elections Director Chris Thomas told the Detroit News they were preparing to begin a recount on Friday.
