Donald Trump Comments: Gov. Rick Perry Speaks Out Against Trump’s Border
In another response to Trump’s criticism of the former Texas governor’s work securing the border with Mexico, Perry said Trump is merely paying lip service.
In a statement, Perry insisted Trump’s ideology is not conservative but rather something unique: “Trump-ism“.
It was inevitable that among the huge field of Republican presidential candidates, a second-tier contender would take advantage of the opening provided by the Donald Trump phenomenon and position him- or herself as the anti-Trump.
The next president must enforce the federal government’s obligation to secure the border, Perry added.
“.@GovernorPerry failed on the border”.
Trump has said that officials in border states – including Perry, the former governor of Texas – have failed to protect the United State against an influx of violent immigrants. Lindsey Graham, who, like Perry, continues to lag in the also-ran category, said this of Trump on the “Today” show: “We live in the most complicated unsafe times in the world, and he’s a wrecking ball when it comes to policy”.
“I have known Rick Perry since we were classmates at Texas A&M University, and he has always been a man of character”.
The statement that Perry links to in that tweet goes on to savage Trump’s “fundamental misunderstanding of border security” and note: “Mr. Trump has done nothing to prove that he is the president America needs”. As a border state governor, he’s also highlighted his own record boosting the presence of patrolmen in the Rio Grande Valley.
“He was much nastier than he should have been, and really, he failed at the border”, Trump said Wednesday in a Fox News interview. But Trump – possibly emboldened by his new best buddy-ship with fellow wanna-be Sen. “Because what he did was he fired up the crazies”. Trump is polling well for two reasons: One is simple name recognition, the other is that he’s politically incorrect, and not just politically incorrect but politically incorrect about a topic that Beltway Republicans have been straining for years to make the party “correct” about.
