Donald Trump Disinvited from RedState Gathering in Atlanta
Donald Trump on Sunday resumed his running battle with a Fox News television host and Republican presidential rivals who accuse him of disrespecting women as he tried to make the case that a main challenger is the one in trouble with female voters.
Speaking to CNN after the debate, Trump criticized debate moderator Kelly’s line of questioning that painted him as a misogynist, saying of Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes”.
“As much as I do personally like Donald Trump, his comment about Megyn Kelly on CNN is a bridge too far for me“, said conservative pundit Erick Erickson, editor of RedState blog and organiser of the event.
He told NBC, “She asked, I thought, a very unfair question, and so did everybody on social media”, a reference to Kelly’s question during the debate of Trump’s earlier disparaging remarks about women.
And, the statement said, Erickson “has a history of supporting establishment losers in failed campaigns so it is an honor to be uninvited from his event”.
She also featured on another Sunday politics show, Face The Nation on CBS, on which she said: “I think women of all kinds are really sort of horrified by this”.
Sounding tired of the controversy, Trump said he wanted to talk about other things. Trump told her: “And honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry”, Trump said.
“I’ve always had a great relationship with women”, he said, adding that he has employed thousands of women.
“I want to get back to the country”, he said.
Trump was scheduled to deliver the keynote address on Saturday night at a conference in Atlanta organised by Red State, an influential conservative group.
Unlike the Fox News debates that divided the 17-candidate field into two groups on crowded stages, the RedState Gathering in Atlanta offered several of those seeking the Republican nomination a half-hour all to themselves.
“Fox News viewers had no issue w/ Megyn Kelly for at least 12 months until she asked Trump tough questions”, Galvez tweeted.
As for newly vacant spot at the RedState Gathering, Erickson has invited Kelly to replace Trump.
The top-polling Republican presidential candidates spent a lot of time on immigration in Cleveland.
Trump dismissed his critics as beholden to political correctness, a concept he is not encumbered with, and pointed to opinion polls as proof he was “winning big all over the place”. If you take a look at her, she’s a slob.
“For all of the people who were looking forward to Mr Trump coming, we will miss you”. Bush, appearing that day before ministers at a Southern Baptist convention in Nashville, said in part, “I’m not sure we need half a billion dollars for women’s health issues”.
