Donald Trump Doubles Down on His Plan to Shut Down the Internet
Wolf Blitzer said during CNN’s GOP debate.
Donald Trump reiterated in the fifth Republican debate on Tuesday night that he would be open to “closing parts of the Internet” to prevent ISIS from attracting recruits, but it wasn’t clear exactly what he meant. “I do not want them to use our Internet to take our young, impressionable people”.
Mr Trump seemed to believe that his suggestions of using technology to shut down Isil accounts and infiltrate their communications is something new.
“Let me follow up, Mr. Trump”, Blitzer pushed, possibly worrying that the LOLcats portion of the Internet would remain standing, “so, are you open to closing parts of the Internet?”
Donald Trump has a very specific plan for taking down ISIS: banning their Internet access!
“Are you open to closing parts of the Internet?”
This line of questioning was directed at Trump after he said during a recent campaign event that he wanted to look at “maybe in certain areas closing that Internet up in some way”, in reference to ISIS recruiting followers online. Rand Paul attacked Trump’s proposal, calling it unconstitutional.
Trump responded that he is not talking about “closing the Internet”.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich also discussed his ISIS strategy, saying we have to “penetrate these people.” All you have to do is go to www.calltrump.today and type in your message.
“I’m talking about parts of Syria, parts of Iraq – places where ISIS is”, he said. “Now, you could close it. What I like even better than that is getting our smartest and getting our best to infiltrate their Internet”. First of all, it’s a freaky and irrelevant characterization to say that ISIS is using the Internet “better” than the United States. “I like that better”. Trump appeared to walk back his comments.
