Donald Trump drops out of GOP forum in Greenville
Trump is now scheduled to be in South Carolina next week to attend a town hall, and his campaign sent an advisory later on Friday that indicated he would still appear at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition Forum on Saturday. The event is co-sponsored by two of the biggest names in South Carolina GOP politics: Gov. Nikki Haley and former Sen.
The event at Bon Secours Wellness Arena starts at 4 p.m. The candidates each will speak for about 20 minutes.
The decision to pull out came on the same day Trump was getting hammered from both Democrats and Republicans for the exchange on Muslims Thursday night.
Sources close to Jim DeMint – president of the Heritage Foundation (and a former U.S. Senator from South Carolina) – tell us a frantic phone call was made to Trump earlier this week to make sure he was still committed to attending the event. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome our candidates to South Carolina and offer them the chance to talk face to face with our voters”.
Trump answered back, “We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things”.
Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and the Democratic National Committee all hit Trump hard.
Trump didn’t address the accusation but said he would consider options. “That’s unfortunate that Mr. Trump is unable to attend”.
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie went after Trump as well, saying he “wouldn’t have permitted that” from the audience.
“Trump must apologize to the president and American people for continuing the lie that the president is not an American and not a Christian”, he said.
“Give me a break”, Graham said.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal opted to show his troll game continues to be strong in relation to the 2016 race.
