Donald Trump ‘furious’ after Kellyanne Conway steps up Mitt Romney attacks
“Donald was walking around asking everybody he could about who should be his secretary of state”.
Still, Trump’s team says the president-elect has been focused on the transition and selecting the members of the administration’s Cabinet and said he still has plenty of time to get up to speed on the worldwide affairs and security threats before he takes office.
“He attacked (Trump) on a personal level about his character, integrity, his honor”, Huckabee said, adding that choosing the former MA governor for secretary of state “would be a real insult to those Donald Trump voters who worked really hard”. Though Conway said she and the party would support whomever Trump picked for the cabinet position, she confirmed that she was personally against the pick.
President-elect Donald Trump will meet today with former CIA Director and retired Gen. David Petraeus at Trump Tower, senior level sources told ABC News.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called both Romney and Giuliani “good, capable, serious men” during an appearance on “This Week”.
Fox News reported even over the holiday weekend that if Romney wants to join the cabinet, he’s going to have to apologize for his previous criticisms of Trump.
Conway said she would support Trump if he chose to pick Romney for the position, but other Republicans criticized her for making her case on television, rather than talking to Trump directly. Conway’s comments stirred speculation that she is seeking to either force Trump’s hand or give him cover for ultimately passing over Romney.
“He and his consultants were nothing but terrible to Donald Trump for a year”, she said.
Conway did add that she is glad that the former MA governor and the president-elect are now talking. Amid Trump’s struggle to normalize the unexpected election results and adopt an atypical presidential persona, a handful of his most ardent supporters escalated their public attacks on Mitt Romney, the erstwhile avowed Trump critic, who is rumored to be a front-runner to lead the State Department.
“Gov. Romney for the past four years ― has he been around the globe doing something for the United States of which we are unaware?” Romney had resisted Trump’s nomination for the presidential race from his party.
A top aide to Donald Trump says the president-elect will reverse President Barack Obama’s opening to Cuba absent any change of direction by the Cuban government.
Conway told CNN’s “State of the Union” and NBC’s “Meet the Press” that many Trump loyalists feel betrayed by Romney’s opposition to Trump’s candidacy during the campaign. “Let me be very clear here: Not only has there been reporting from, like, the top of the organization, three or four sources at the top of the organization but everybody around that incident said she went completely rogue and Donald Trump was furious yesterday that she would take that upon herself to keep attacking Mitt Romney”.
Trump was also considering former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for Homeland Security secretary, according to those close to the transition process.
Kelly met with the president-elect about a week ago. And they’re waving their hands to get Trump’s attention the best way they know how: in public.
