But Trump just couldn’t… uh, let it go. It’s absurdity. He has got a son-in-law who’s an Orthodox Jew, his daughter has converted to Judaism, grandchildren who are Jewish. It was also popularized by a white supremacist message board over a week earlier.

At his rally, Trump also repeatedly slammed the media – including CNN – for its coverage of the controversy during a rally with thousands of supporters in the battleground state of OH and accused the media of having “racist tendencies”.

A strawman attack in American politics is a means of discrediting an opponent by appearing to refute an argument or position that they haven’t actually taken. “They are profiling”, he continued, asking “Why are they bringing it up?”

He added that he expects to speak at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland later this month.

“These are sick people”, he said.

It is possible, of course, that Trump knows more about Presidential campaigning than the reporters, commentators, politicians, and political strategists who are poking fun at him, myself included.
