Donald Trump Interviews Himself On ‘The Tonight Show’
Trump, at the start of the show, participated in an “interview” with “the only one qualified to interview” him — himself.
“Me interviewing me?” Trump said to Fallon (who was sporting a Trump wig and some spot-on impressions of Trump’s hand gestures and facial movements). “That’s what I call a great idea.”
Donald Trump didn’t ruffle too many feathers during his interview on “The Tonight Show” on Friday, his first late-night appearance since announcing his run for president. If Trump kept digging himself into holes, Fallon told him, “you might be President of China”. He also asked Trump if his predilection for making off the cuff remarks might lead him astray. Trump said, “I’ll just do it”. So Fallon asked about Trump’s plans for building the wall along the Mexican border, something he said he would get the Mexicans to do (not to mention pay for it). “Easy. I’ll challenge them to the biggest game of Jenga ever”, he suggested.
In an interview segment, Trump was quick to cast aspersions on Hillary Clinton, who he said faces “tough stuff” in light of the current scrutiny she is receiving due to questions about how she handled emails while U.S. Secretary of State.
Fallon/Trump even asked, if Trump got the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, would he pick actor Gary Busey as his running mate.
Trump’s answer cracks the studio audience while Fallon, still in his Trump impersonation, gestures with his head and mouth, “smart move”. Taking a cue from his unforgettable predecessors, including hosts Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, Fallon carrys on the tradition that audiences know and love – kicking off every show with the iconic “Tonight Show” monologue.
