Donald Trump introduces Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as running mate
United States Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has chosen IN governor Mike Pence to be his vice-presidential running mate.
Donald Trump formally announced Mike Pence as his Vice President pick Saturday in a messy event following a drama-filled rollout of the selection. He quickly praised Trump, saying, “Donald Trump gets it and he understands the American people” and calling Trump a “good man” who will make a “great president”.
Trump offered sympathies to the victims in France and commented on the attempted coup in Turkey and his opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, before offering words of praise for Pence.
The Trump announcement of Mike Pence has been a complete fiasco, as the Republican nominee has hijacked the event by accusing Hillary Clinton of murder.
Trump’s announcement comes three days before the Republican National Convention opens in Cleveland, Ohio, where Trump will officially become the party’s presidential nominee.
Trump said, speaking from Manhattan, that Pence was his “first choice” before going on to repeat his line that he was the, “law and order candidate”.
The primary reason he wanted Pence, Trump said, was his ability to bring down Indiana’s unemployment rate – “other than he looks really good”.
This was typical Trump, which is to say a bit unpredictable, and that actually could help build some interest in next week’s GOP gathering.
In foreign policy, Trump would lead from strength, Pence said.
Democrat Hillary Clinton, also appearing on Fox, said the USA needs to “stand strongly” with France and said she would intensify efforts to put together a more effective coalition against terrorism.

In sharp contrast, Pence delivered a prepared speech that highlighted his own biography and then made a case for electing Trump president.
Trump’s pick was aimed in part at easing some Republicans’ concerns about his temperament and lack of political experience.
After the joint appearance with Trump at the New York Hilton Midtown, Pence flies back for a “welcome home rally” in Zionsville, Ind. Trump is not scheduled to attend the in event.
Trump also jabbed lightly at Pence for not endorsing him during the Indiana Republican primary contest.
And that may have been Trump’s influencing factor when picking Pence. Other finalists included New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
He offered remarks introducing himself: “People who know me well know that I’m a pretty basic guy”. Trump talked about Pence or the combined ticket about a quarter of the time.
