“Donald Trump is stupid and wrong”, Cameron says
As she’s working the counter at a hole-in-the-wall hot dog stand named Rosie’s in upstate South Carolina, Tracy Hooker isn’t interested in debating the merits of Donald Trump’s proposal to temporarily block Muslims from coming into the United States.
But he and other legal scholars agree that some members of the current high court – including Justice Stephen Breyer – would likely expect the government to have a strong reason for excluding all people of the same religion.
That’s why she says Trump is “my guy”.
Theodore Roosevelt once said “Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all…we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people”.
Though Trump’s poll numbers have repeatedly appeared immune to controversy throughout his campaign, criticism of his plan to bar Muslim entry into the US was widespread and bipartisan.
“This country has struggled throughout its history with racism but we have come too far to retreat into these ugly and horrific sentiments regarding Latinos, regarding Muslims and regarding other minorities”, he added.
“They really know they have a problem”, he said. For example, when making his proposal for banning Muslims, Trump spoke favorably of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s internment of Japanese-Americans (and Japanese residents) during World War II.
“When I found out he was going to be in Aiken, I was like I had to be there”, said Hough.
Dan Edwards, a 53-year-old retired banker from Van Meter, Iowa, who brought his family to Trump’s town hall in Des Moines on Friday, said Trump’s words were taken out of context. I don’t want to make America great again, I want to make it better than it ever was before, breaking records, innovating solutions, and moving the country forward with the notion that we as a country are capable of change.
“People have been impressed by my stamina, but to me it has been easy because I am truly doing something that I love”, he said. Blitzer then asked Jeb Bush, who was one of many Presidential candidates to call Trump out when he originally proposed banning Muslim migrants, about the proposal.
At one point, Trump, discussing Clinton, quipped that she “puts on her pantsuit every morning”.
“We are concerned about the feeling in the larger community about Muslims”, he said.
“We’ve reached a point where the belief runs strong that if you can’t convince people of substance, you blind them with bulls–“, he added. “Do you agree with him?”
Taking a subtle dig at Ms. Clinton, and alluding to protesters who disrupted her speech yesterday, Mr. Sanders said he was proud to reject support from super PACs and donations from the private prison industry.
Still, Montplaisir is sticking with Trump and plans to vote for him when New Hampshire holds the first primary of the campaign.
