Jeb Bush, a promoter of immigration reform whose wife was born in Mexico, took a few political heat for not immediately denouncing Donald Trump’s characterization of Mexican immigrants as criminals.
“Trump is making daily headlines in advance of the primary season”, said Suffolk University poll director David Paleologos in a statement accompanying the poll results.
“We need to focus on the things that tie us together, and whether it’s Donald Trump or Barack Obama, their rhetoric of divisiveness is wrong”, the candidate added, essentially equating the two men. “In 2012, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain led the GOP primary field briefly but only to fade”. Ted Cruz of Texas has said he’s proud to stand with Trump. Lindsey Graham and former New York Gov. George Pataki – received less than 2 percent.
Donald Trump may be doing well in some early Republican presidential polls, but reported by new research he has a lot of work to do to convince more Americans his bid for the GOP nomination is realistic.
Trump also led in an Economist/YouGov poll released last Thursday, though Jeb Bush continues to lead in the majority of national polls, according to the Real Clear Politics average. About 15 percent said they are more likely to support Trump because of his comments, while 48 percent said the comments make them less likely to vote for him.
The USA Today/Suffolk University placed Trump first among Republicans with 17% of those surveyed saying he’s their top pick for the nomination.
The poll’s marrgin of error is plus or minus 5.25 percentage points. That’s worse than any other Republican candidate fared against Clinton in a head-to-head matchup. Bush is the strongest candidate against Clinton, but lags by 4 percentage points nationwide, 46-42.
