Donald Trump’s Pals Aerosmith Warn Him To Stop Using “Dream On”
One of Donald Trump’s celebrity pals is pissed at him, legally speaking, anyway – Steven Tyler is threatening to sue Trump if he keeps using Aerosmith’s song “Dream On” during campaign rallies.
Now, following his use of the song at a rally in Georgia yesterday, representatives for Steven Tyler have reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to his campaign. The letter warns Trump to abstain from using the track within 24-hours, saying, “If Trump for President does not comply with our demands, our client will be forced to pursue any and all legal or equitable remedies which our client may have against you”. However, sources claim Tyler did appear at a Republican debate as a personal guest of Trump last August. The warning was delivered in the form of a cease-and-desist letter, marking the second warning from the band and the third instance of artists becoming upset over the candidate using their work without asking.
Trump and his wife Melania posed for a photo with Tyler, and the frontman called out to the Trumps before performing “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”.
“[Tyler’s] position has always been consistent regarding copyright and intellectual property”, Tyler’s attorney Dina LaPolt told TMZ. Tyler, a registered Republican, chose to send the letter on grounds of business.
In June, rocker Neil Young also called out Trump for using his “Rockin’ In the Free World” hit without permission during the magnate’s campaign kickoff event.
Trump has tweeted in the past of his admiration for Aerosmith and Steven Tyler.
“The media and the American voter should focus on the bigger picture, and not allow grandstanding politicians to distract us from the pressing issues of the day and of the current Presidential campaign”, it added. “Steven wrote 100 per cent of Dream On, and this is about the unauthorised use of his property”.
