Donald Trump teases plan to tackle costs of child care
He dismissed Clinton as representing “the exhausted voices of the past”.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren slammed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s newly detailed tax reform plan as a blueprint for “helping rich guys like Donald Trump get richer – & leaving everyone else behind”.
According to the MA senator, Trump’s economic plan would primarily benefit the rich, the same group by which she said it was crafted.
As he called for urgent change away from Democratic policies, he envisioned a nation refocused on manufacturing at home and wary of trade deals overseas – a country bearing little resemblance to the globally focused economy of recent years.
Trump has vowed to rewrite some worldwide trade deals, including the North American Free Trade Agreement of 1994, a deal linking the economies of the United States, Mexico and Canada and signed into law by Clinton’s husband, then-President Bill Clinton.
Silence is never an option when someone is hurting our country.
One at a time, women seated throughout the audience stood up and yelled “Mr Trump”, but their continued shouts were quickly drowned out by boos as security led them from the room. He did not react harshly as he often has in the past, either quietly thanking the guards or simply powering ahead in his speech. “And he is a man who speaks his mind”. On Monday, he obliged, accusing her of jilting American workers and coming up short on promises to constituents.
“The one common feature of every Hillary Clinton idea is that it punishes you for working and doing business in the United States”, said Trump. He said he wants to “jumpstart America” and added, “It won’t even be that hard”.
Collins did not mention in the column who she planned to vote for in November, but she said she did not support either major-party nominee, a possible signal that she would not vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton, either. She will not let the charges go unanswered, the adviser said, and will correct the record on trade, economy and Detroit’s renewed booming auto industry.
Trump focused in part on taxes on US businesses, declaring that no company should pay more than 15 percent of its income in taxes.
That was in reference to Trump’s pledge to reduce the overall corporate tax rate to 15 percent.
Trump also announced that as president, he would sign an executive order creating a temporary regulatory moratorium on new agency regulations.
Trump said he wants to simplify the tax code, which now has seven tax brackets, to three: 12 percent, 25 percent and 33 percent of income after deductions.
In 2015, Trump proposed a lower top rate of 25 percent.
Protesters have occasionally disrupted Trump’s larger rallies, where members of the public can enter, but this was the first time he has faced such sustained resistance at a policy speech delivered to a private group.
“I have said throughout this campaign I am not going to raise the taxes on the middle class, but with your help we are going to raise it on the wealthy”, Clinton said at a Monday rally in the battleground state of Florida.
Experts said his old plan would have increased the debt by as much as $10 trillion over the next decade.
As recently as Sunday, Trump’s campaign website featured his previous tax plan under a section describing his policy positions. Under the plan, he said, highest-income earners would pay essentially the same amount as they do now because lower rates would be compensated by the elimination of deductions.
A Trump campaign aide, who asked not to be identified, said Trump’s economic plan will lessen the tax burden on parents who pay for childcare because “we don’t want it to be an economic disadvantage to have children”.
His tax plan reflected traditional Republican thinking that lowering taxes can generate economic growth and creating jobs. His child-care expense plan would presumably raise that cost even further, as would an infrastructure spending plan that he has said could cost more than $500 billion.
After Trump said August 2 he would double Clinton’s infrastructure spending plan in a major government expansion, aides said he will speak later this summer about his plan for the nation’s roadways.
