Donald Trump to accept Republican presidential nomination
Taking aim at another section of the Trump speech – when he said to Americans who feel “ignored, neglected and abandoned.I am your voice” – Clinton said, ‘I don;t think he speaks for most Americans, do you?’
“All of the people telling you that you can’t have the country you want, are the same people telling you that I wouldn’t be standing here tonight”.
She spent much of the speech detailing Mr Trump’s career as a businessman and real estate mogul.
The first three days of the convention bordered on chaos, starting with a plagiarism charge involving his wife Melania Trump’s speech.
Mr Trump has previously suggested that Mr Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of John F Kennedy and criticised the appearance of his wife, Heidi.
Mike Pence introduced himself after accepting the nomination for vice president at the RNC in Cleveland.
Manafort told NBC’s “Today” on Thursday that Cruz “understood what the responsibilities are, someone in his position”.
The moment was typical Trump, not just in its freewheeling, unplugged style, but in his penchant for dredging up past grievances when he could be forward looking to new challenges.
Clinton alleged that Trump does not speak for U.S. military, which he has insulted consistently and in particular prisoners of war who sacrifice much of their life because they serve us.
Trump turned to justifying how, on the eve of the IN primary, he touted a story IN the National Enquirer tabloid that printed a photo that purported to show Cruz’s father, Rafael, with Lee Harvey Oswald.
The remarks by 70-year-old Mr Trump closed out a four-day convention that underscored his struggle to heal fissures in the Republican Party over his anti-illegal-immigrant rhetoric and concerns about his temperament.
In one example, Mrs. Trump said: “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect”.
Trump was otherwise more restrained than usual Thursday night. Trump also said that the National Enquirer, which published the freaky and totally unsubstantiated story about Rafael Cruz and Oswald, should win a Pulitzer Prize.
But it wasn’t that long ago Cruz was singing the praises of Trump.
Newt Gingrich spoke at the convention just after Sen. Ted Cruz was essentially booed off the stage when he failed to endorse Trump. Gingrich attempted to smooth things over.
“Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself”, he said, adding that Cruz probably hurt his own future White House aspirations by not backing the campaign.
One Texas delegate called Cruz’s speech, which asked people to “vote their conscience”, a middle finger to the entire convention. “I’m am proud to be gay, I am proud to be a Republican, but mostly I am proud to be an American”, Thiel said. But he said Cruz “didn’t honor” the pledge that Republican primary candidates had made to support the eventual GOP nominee.
That may be optimistic, but the GOP convention wasn’t almost as disastrous as most pundits made it seem. It’s no good – and we’re going to stop it.
