Donald Trump Wants Supreme Court’s Same-Sex Marriage Decision Reversed
Now that he’s alienated Muslims, immigrants, and women, Trump’s taking on gay rights, pointing out that, actually, he’s not so opposed to making sure that people who’ve fought so hard for the ability to be legally married have that right stripped from them because it’s a states’ rights issue. “And that’s the way it should have been ruled on, not the way they did it. I can see changes coming down the line, frankly”.
31, 2016, said he would “strongly consider” nominating U.S. Supreme Court justices who would overturn last year’s ruling that extended marriage rights to same-sex couples across the country. Despite the fact that one of the main things the Supreme Court is supposed to do is make sure that minority groups are protected. In response, Trump said the opposite: that he felt the matter of same-sex marriage should have been left to individual states to decide, and that he would “be very strong on putting certain judges on the bench that I think maybe could change things”.
Trump said when asked about same-sex marriage: “It has been ruled upon, it has been there”.
Politico quoted Trump as saying, “It has been ruled upon”. The decision was a close 5-4 vote. Three of the oldest justices voted for marriage equality – Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 82, Anthony Kennedy is 79 and Stephen Breyer is 77.
