Donald Trump wars with Fox News and Megyn Kelly
The first GOP presidential candidate debate was loaded with ridiculous, cringeworthy moments, but probably the most painful was when Donald Trump insulted Rosie O’Donnell.
Trump faced immediate backlash late Friday night after the comments.
It came after she quizzed him over comments he had made about women, namely calling them “fat pigs” or “slobs”.
“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes”, Trump said during the Friday night prime time interview with Don Lemon.
Trump was scheduled to deliver the keynote address Saturday night at a conference in Atlanta organized by Red State, an influential conservative group.
The remark has prompted the organiser of the RedState gathering to rescind an invitation to Trump to appear.
Writing on the RedState website Erickson said: “It is unfortunate to have to disinvite him”.
I called Mr. Trump’s campaign manager and apologized and told him I felt bad for Mr. Trump because he has gotten so much sh*t from so many people and the party itself wasn’t treating the guy at the front of the pack as legitimate.
He said in a blogpost: “I have tried to give a great deal of latitude to Donald Trump in his run for the presidency”.
A spokeswoman for Clinton told reporters the two couples were “long established” acquaintances and called the comment hurtful. “So what it did is it actually, I think, expanded the effective field”.
From the opening, Trump showed what kind of Republican he truly is – the snake variety.
“I said it as a joke”.
Trump has also said the same of men.
Otherwise, Trump was in full attack mode Friday.
Republican stalwart and Fox owner Rupert Murdoch praised debate moderators Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace – while criticizing his friend Trump.
On “Morning Joe“, Trump denied he’d made some of the chauvinistic comments brought up during the GOP debate. I mean, I do my thing, and whatever it is.
“Hooray for Fox News“, New York Times columnist Frank Bruni wrote, while admitting he “never imagined writing” those words.
But every one was documented at the time.
Erickson said he initially approached Trump’s campaign about the Kelly statement and that “they wouldn’t deny” it was a reference to menstruation. Republican officials were particularly concerned about Fiorina, hoping she would help balance Hillary Rodham Clinton’s push to rally women to her candidacy.
Four years ago, for the 2012 presidential election, the first Republican presidential debate on Fox News in 2011 pulled in 3.2 million viewers.
To Trump, that already makes him a victor. “Nearly all of his supporters abandoned him because of what he said”. “However, that is not without its downsides, in particular, when it comes to women”, Fox News personality and moderator Megyn Kelly said.
After the debate, he took to Twitter to say Ms Kelly had “really bombed” and that she hadn’t been “very good or professional”.
