Donald Trump won’t stop hammering Ted Cruz for his Canada ‘problem’
Iowa is a tossup; everywhere else, Donald Trump is running away with the nomination.
On a national basis, Trump’s results also mirrored the December poll in which he prevailed 39 percent to 18 percent. In a bit of payback, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., whom Cruz famously called a liar last summer, said the Senate would not do the same for Cruz.
Cruz did get some measured support from his fellow Texas senator, Sen.
Trump reiterated on “Fox News Sunday” that the Supreme Court never has defined what “natural born citizen” means in the constitutional provision outlining the requirements to serve as president. McCain was born to American parents on a USA military base in the Panama Canal Zone. “And I always say the wall, we’re going to build the wall”.
The atmosphere in New Hampshire appears to be pretty different from the one in Iowa. “We’ll have a nominee, hopefully, by sometime in the spring”. “If Ted is the nominee, he will be sued by the Democrats”.
Trump tops Cruz nearly 4-1 on the negative list as 26 percent of Iowa Republican Caucus-goers say they “would definitely not support” Trump, with 7 percent who would not support Cruz.
According to a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll, Cruz barely leads Trump in Iowa by only four points among likely caucus voters.
Trump knows that there is a solid subset of voters in the Republican primary whose patriot buttons can be pushed by the mere fact that Cruz wasn’t born in one of the 50 states.
As for the “natural born” clause of the Constitution being clear-cut, several constitutional law scholars, including Harvard University’s Laurence Tribe who taught both Cruz and President Barack Obama, said it was not.
“She was an American citizen by birth, she’s been an American citizen all 81 years of her life, she’s never been a citizen of any other place”, Cruz said on CNN’s “State of the Union”.
“I love Donald, but it’s getting a little boring”, said the man, who wore a hat with Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
“I believe that it will be a vote of Congress, and a lot of the best lawyers, the top lawyers, the real lawyers in the country agree with me”, he said.
“Does natural-born mean born to the land, meaning born on the land?” In that case, he’s not’. Cruz said on Thursday that he’s “not taking legal advice from Donald Trump”.
The businessman insisted he was only responding to questions in the media, and not needling Mr. Cruz under the guise of wanting to help him down the road.
In Iowa, Ted Cruz-the senator from Texas-is actually leading Trump in the polls. In the poll, Trump now leads Cruz by 16 points, 34-18, with no other candidate scoring above 10 percent.
