DONE DEAL! Rickie Lambert completes move from Liverpool to West Brom
The 33-year-old boyhood Reds fan made a switch to the Merseyside club along with Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from Southampton last summer.
Rickie Lambert is set to secure his move to West Brom and Tony Pulis is also keen on Jonathan Walters from Stoke and Carlton Cole who is a free agent.
“It’s very important that we get players who will score goals”.
He likened the experienced striker’s last year or so to an unused auto – insisting that it would be similar to bringing a “brand new vehicle out of the garage” and just putting “a bit of petrol in him and letting him run”.
However, he was given a peripheral role in a hard season for the Reds and could only manage two goals in 25 Premier League appearances. He’s on less money than he was at Liverpool, so he wants to play football. His first was a long-range left-footed strike, which was aided by a deflection.
Lambert realised a dream when he signed for Liverpool some 17 years after he was released as a trainee. There were a few inquiries, but West Brom just felt right from the very beginning.
“Albion have completed the signing of Rickie Lambert from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee”, read a statement on the club’s official website.
Lambert scored on his England debut against Scotland at Wembley in August 2013.
“I think me and Saido Berahino up top will be a great partnership and that is another reason why I am looking forward to being a West Brom player”.
Lambert showed little signs of rustiness, netting twice in the rout against a team that he played for earlier in his career.
