Donna Shalala, former Clinton cabinet secretary, has stroke
Former University of Miami president Donna Shalala is recovering after a stroke Tuesday night.
“Initial reports are very encouraging”, the pair said in the statement.
The Clintons said “fortunately, she was with colleagues at the time”, and was taken to a hospital.
Bill Clinton visited her at the hospital late Tuesday afternoon, where she seemed to be in good spirits, according to the New York Times. The report said that Shalala was alert and joking with the former president.
The charitable organisation and its worldwide arm – the Clinton Global Initiative – was set up after Bill Clinton left the presidency. They added, “We will continue to share updates as we know more”.
“The University of Miami family is keeping former president Donna Shalala in our thoughts”.
According onto the tabloid, President Clinton traveled to Shalala and had “a wonderful conversation” after operations. She was the chancellor at Madison from 1988-to-’93, when Clinton named her as the nation’s health and human services secretary.
“Prayers go out to my friend Donna Shalala…get well soon”, tweeted CNN commentator Paul Begala, who also advises a pro-Hillary Clinton Super PAC.
