Donnelly Not Surprised By Bayh’s Lead in Poll
The new poll that shows former governor Evan Bayh (D) ahead of challenger, Rep. Todd Young (R), does not surprise Democrat Sen.
“Pence is likely boosting the GOP ticket’s prospects here, as IN voters really don’t like either of the two presidential nominees”, Murray said. In the Indiana gubernatorial race to replace Pence, Holcomb only has a razor-slight lead over former Democratic Speaker of the Indiana House John Gregg by 42 to 41 percent.
A new Monmouth University poll out Wednesday shows Republican nominee Donald Trump keeping a safe distance from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in IN ― something that shouldn’t come as a surprise since 54 percent of the state’s likely voters surveyed approve of the job Gov. Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate, is doing in office.
The Evansville Courier and Press reports Bayh is leading Young 48 percent to 41 percent.
“Gregg was involved in one of the closest governor’s races in IN history when he faced off against Pence four years ago”.
Democrats and Republicans can take both positives and negatives away from a new poll of likely IN voters IN this fall’s general election.
A third of voters in IN said they view Trump favorably compared to just over a quarter who said the same about Clinton. “This one could be even closer”.
As Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said, “The scary thing for Republicans in the Virginia and Colorado numbers is that they show a possible Hillary Clinton landslide in states that only eight years ago leaned GOP and before that had been GOP strongholds”. Libertarian Rex Bell received 4 percent, and 13 percent of respondents said they are undecided.
Democrats pointed out that the poll over-sampled Republicans – 39 percent compared with 26 percent Democrats and 35 percent independents.
“If Indiana wants to continue to see strong economic and fiscal leadership, to have a voice that will fight on behalf of Hoosiers in Washington, and be a nationwide example of what strong Republican leadership can bring, then it is vital that we elect Eric Holcomb for Governor and Todd Young for Senate”, said the release.
Among Indiana voters likely to cast ballots in November’s presidential election, 47 percent now support Trump, 36 percent back Clinton, 10 percent intend to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson, and 5 percent are undecided.
The poll found 40 percent didn’t care.
The results have a margin of error of plus/minus 4.9 percent. Monmouth University is in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
