Donor drops coin worth $1000 into Salvation Army bucket
Families lined up to get toys for their kids Thursday morning at The Salvation Army Christmas Center on Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.
The Salvation Army is distributing thousands of toys to hundreds of central IL families in need this holiday season.
During this season, the Salvation Army has raised $179,000 as of Friday.
The red kettle Christmas campaign, which began in 1891, is the organization’s most prominent fundraiser.
The Salvation Army has been helping those in need in Nelson for 125 years. The Salvation Army says that teaching children the value of volunteerism is a life lesson they will never forget. Last year, nearly 1,600 received help, including more than 400 families which received food and more than 200 families which received toys.
Capt. Correira said although they reached the angel tree goal, they are still short around $55,000 in reaching the goal for the kettle drive.
Please take a moment to bless others by placing coins and dollars into the kettles located around Genesee County or visit the Salvation Army on line at www.salarmygenesee.org to make your donation. – G.G.
“Life is hard, and we understand that, and we want to be there for you, and we want to walk with you so that you’re not alone”, McCluer said she tells Salvation Army clients.
The Salvation Army operates the food bank, offers addictions programs and a drop-in centre. She says it was an act of kindness that put on her a path to help others.
The Lynchburg chapter is $6,000 behind from a year ago.
Christmas gifts for the Angel Tree Program fill a large section of Metrocenter Mall in South Jackson.
A lack of bell-ringing volunteers has meant less sites to place kettles around town, resulting in the lowest donation amount this close to Christmas. “As our biggest fundraiser of the year, it is imperative that we make our goal so that our social service programs and community meals are sustainable throughout the year”.
