Dos Santos has debut goal, assist as Galaxy beat Seattle 3
Dos Santos had a goal and an assist Sunday in his first MLS game, leading the Galaxy to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders.
But it may be an indication of the way things have gone lately for the Sounders, that as Barrett raced away from the goal, he pulled a hamstring and was lost of the rest of the game.
I’m not sure how anyone can back the Sounders right now, as this team can’t win, can’t score or simply do much of anything right at the moment. Dos Santos is expected to add fire power to an already start studded line up that includes Omar Gonzalez, Gyasi Zardes, Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, a former teammate of Dos Santos when the two played for Tottenham in 2008.
Dos Santos picked up the first assist of his MLS career in the 47 minute when he directed an A.J. DeLaGarza cross into the path of Keane for the go-ahead goal.
Whereas dos Santos’ European profession was inconsistent, the Galaxy have been chasing him for years, believing his mixture of offensive aptitude and Mexican heritage can be an unlimited increase on the sector and amongst Southern California’s monumental Mexican-American inhabitants.
The sellout crowd at StubHub Center gave a standing ovation when dos Santos left in the 69th minute after delivering the latest big debut for the defending MLS champions. “This is a great rivalry with Seattle and we are very happy for the win”.
Keane returned the favor for Dos Santos in the 64th, pouncing on a poor pass from Erik Friberg and slotting it behind the Seattle defense for Dos Santos to tuck it away and secure the result for the Galaxy. Keane said. “He’s obviously not 100 percent fit – he’s probably about 80 – [but] the last 20 minutes of the first half, you could see little signs where we’re getting the ball into Gio’s feet quickly, and it was causing some problems”.
Zardes equalized in the 13th minute, following a corner kick that was cleared outside the box to Lletget, who fed Juninho.
“Stevie playing the midfield, as far building up to get to goal, I think he’s going to be the best at it in the league”, said midfielder Sebastian Lleget, who is second on the team with six goals. Then in the second half, as soon as we got that early goal, it was game over in the way that we played.
Robbie Rogers saved a goal in the 71st minute after Rickets came out of his net to make a save and the ball got past him rolling towards the net.
The 26-year-old Dos Santos started coaching with the Galaxy every week in the past after arriving from Mexico’s Gold Cup title run.
The Galaxy won that match, 3-1, via the MLS official website, to increase their lead over Sporting Kansas City, who are now at the no. 4 spot in the tough Western Conference. When on form, they are impossible to beat and will expect to end Sunday with another three points.
