Doug Pederson: Chiefs’ Alex Smith everything you want in a quarterback
Doug Pederson said the offense was “just OK”, which seemed a perfectly reasonable evaluation of a group that was alternately good, bad and something in between for most of the afternoon.
Pederson hopes to repay Reid with a loss. I don’t want to forget Philadelphia. But Reid and Pederson apparently are willing to live with a degree of carelessness if a quarterback is so naturally gifted and dynamic.
Pederson served as an assistant coach under Reid for five years before landing the head gig in Philly, ultimately replacing his mentor there after the Chip Kelly experiment failed. Outside the tackles, however, Hunt rushed 14 times for 137 yards. Pederson then followed Reid to Kansas City where he served as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2013-15.
The two men know each other inside and out.
“He looks at it in a way in which you could argue the trade itself saved his life”, Saints coach Sean Payton said, via ESPN.
“They have a little bit of influx of the old San Diego staff in there so you’re getting a little bit of that”, Reid said. There’s no shortcut around that. “Those are things I learned from him that. prepared me for this opportunity”.
Reid, who is 174-114-1 as a head coach, is proud of his pupil for keeping his focus.
“Well I guess the bottom line is I wore out my welcome”, Reid said with a laugh. You can’t assume your coaches know everything.
It’s been highlighted again and again around these parts – Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson is strikingly similar to Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid.
The feeling here is that of all the players plugged in at right tackle during Johnson’s 10-game absence last fall, Seumalo did the best job in his one and only start at that spot. Pederson said. “Alex, very cerebral guy”.
“I just think that if you play long enough you realize how quick things can change”, Smith said in explaining his nonchalance. RB Kareem Hunt set rookie debut record with 246 yards from scrimmage. The scrambling led to chaos in the secondary, and Eagles wide receivers managed to break free for bigger gains, the majority of which felt even more back-breaking because they occurred on third down. Once he got to the Eagles, Schwartz didn’t use as much cover 2, instead of working with more single high coverage with a safety in the box. While the Chiefs’ kicking game isn’t great by any stretch of the imagination, Hill is possibly the most unsafe return man in the league right now. He then saw his first regular-season action in four games with the Chicago Bears in 2016. “We made a couple, and we’ll just keep firing away”. Our job is to create havoc. But at the same time, we were fortunate to make the moves we did to get Carson. “He wants us to attack so that’s what we do”.
For those that didn’t catch many NFC games past year, the Eagles had an inconsistent 2016 campaign.
“I think it’s just something that, we’ve been talking about all week about kind of getting the monkey of our back with that one there against the Redskins”, Pederson said when asked about the Gatorade bath after the game (via Bleeding Green Nation).
SLOT SUCCESS: Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor didn’t live up to expectations after being selected in the first round in the 2015 draft.
Four of those receptions extended the drive on third down. Elliott was a fifth-round pick by the Bengals and was on their practice squad.
