Downing Street cat Larry to stay put
David Cameron is moving out of Number 10 as his days as Prime Minister come to an end – but will he retreat to Cornwall for a summer break?
The normally raucous prime minister’s questions, turned into a friendly session Wednesday when Cameron was praised for helping to reduce unemployment, fund the National Health Service, and improve educational opportunities.
Cameron, who will sit as a backbench MP, reiterated his support for May and expressed “delight” that his successor would be a woman.
Cameron is moving out of Downing Street, making room for Conservative leader Theresa May.
The Conservative Party leader will go to Buckingham Palace later to officially tender his resignation to the Queen.
Cameron said he meant to stay in public life and would be “willing them on”, addding: “Nothing is impossible”.
Corbyn said: “I have often disagreed with him but there are some of his achievements I really want to welcome and pay recognition to today. legislating to achieve equal marriage within our society”.
It nearly became a case of who can deliver the best gag from the dispatch box with subjects including Monty Pyhton’s Black Knight, female Prime Ministers and Cameron’s mum (not for the first time).
May will follow Cameron to the Palace afterwards to accept the Queen’s offer to form the government.
The prime minister said his successor Theresa May was a “brilliant negotiator” who would secure a good deal for the United Kingdom and for Scotland.
Cameron had backed the “Remain” in the bloc campaign. Cameron says he wanted to scotch “the rumor that somehow I don’t love Larry”.
On his future in politics, Cameron said, “I will watch these exchanges from the back benches.and will be willing you on”.
“Sadly I can’t take Larry with me – he belongs to the house and the staff love him very much”.
After the PM walked into his official residence and office, he was heard saying “right” before the door closes behind him.
Cameron has said he plans to retain his seat as a member of parliament, while there have been media reports that Samantha is planning to launch her own fashion brand or collection in a few years’ time.
