Downton Abbey ends on a happy note in swansong episode
Downton Abbey’s producer has revealed the truth behind the show’s finale on Christmas Day.
It was a big win for ITV as the period drama returned for it’s special episode to take it’s final bow. Details are being kept tightly under wraps but actress Lily James, who plays the character, is thrilled to be a part of Downton’s last hurrah. Her sister Mary got her second happily ever after, but once again, Edith was stiffed, largely at the hands of her spiteful sister.
She spoke of finding hope in a year of “darkness” and reflected on a year that endured terror atrocities including the murder of 38 people at a Tunisian beach resort in June and last month’s Paris attacks that left 130 dead.
“When she spent more time in London, editing Gregson’s magazine and starting an independent life in series six, it was like her butterfly moment – she was finally emotionally ready to wear it”.
NEAME: (Laughing) I’m glad about the movie question because it replaces the question of three years which was always, “When is the show going to end?”
Laura Carmichael is thrilled that Beyoncé watches “Downton Abbey”. I don’t know if I’d be sitting here if it weren’t for Downton. Carson has been more concerned about the pace of change in the Downton Abbey household than he has about his new wife. Fortunately, Thomas appears to be at one with himself, declaring in the teaser: “I arrived here as a boy, I leave here as a man”.
I’m not saying TV should all be misery and weeping and shocking twists, but it should give us more than a patronising pat on the head and say: “Aww, are you happy now?”
There’s was also good news for Anna and John Bates, played by Joanne Froggatt and Brendan Coyle, who welcomed their newborn son, who was controversially born in Mary’s bedroom.
The show airs Christmas Day on ITV at 8.45pm.
The now hugely famous cast have also been speaking about their memories of the show, with actor Hugh Bonneville, who play Robert Crawley, admitting there is one set in particular he will miss the most.
