‘Downton Abbey’ star Maggie Smith responds to Jimmy Kimmel Emmy jokes
Sarah Paulson accepts the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or Movie for “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., September 18, 2016. Even the great Louis-Dreyfus, who would win what felt like her 100th Emmy Award later in the evening, blew tape on a simple limo window roll-up. That makes it the most Emmy-winning comedy or drama series to date, beating out Frasier, which earned 37 Emmys during its 11-year run on NBC.
HBO also won outstanding drama for “Game of Thrones”.
When it comes to Emmys ratings this year, to paraphrase that famous political quip, it isn’t the show that gets you, it’s the competition.
The Emmy broadcast rotates each September among the four biggest broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox – and is created to drum up excitement for the beginning of the fall season.
Once Smith won her fourth Emmy and wasn’t there to accept, Kimmel joked that it would be in the lost and found if she wanted it. Clinton tweeted later, with a clip of McKinnon impersonating her. The best part of her speech was her apology to the country: “While I’m apologizing, I’d like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”.
Having won top honours across mostly all the key categories, technical and creative, the network boasts of showcasing the best shows in the English Entertainment genre, be it drama, comedy or action in India! “I feel like that perspective, that’s really right for right now”, she said. “So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.
Game of Thrones won its 38th Emmy Award last night with its victory in the category of Outstanding Drama Series. Her brittle portrayal of the Democratic nominee is one of her signature roles on the NBC comedy.
“The only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity”, host Jimmy Kimmel joked in his opening monologue.
McKinnon, a tearful victor of a supporting actress award in comedy for her work on “Saturday Night Live”, thanked Clinton upon accepting.
