Dozens arrested at Vic music festival
Two people at the Stereosonic music festival in Adelaide were taken to hospital in a critical condition, the same day a 19-year-old died after attending the event, police say.
A man is in intensive care in hospital after an apparent drug overdose at the Melbourne Stereosonic music festival on Saturday.
They say images of two orange pills featuring a $ logo released by police on Saturday night “may be related” to the death of a man in Royal Adelaide Hospital treated by paramedics at the festival about 5pm.
He said police investigating the teenager’s death would look at the origin of drugs found in his possession and if they were linked to those taken by the two other people in hospital.
A 20-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition in an Adelaide hospital following the festival, along with a 21-year-old woman. He is in a critical condition and is also believed to have taken an illicit drug.
It is the second death at the Stereosonic festival after Sydney pharmacist Sylvia Choi died in Sydney last week.
“I have heard from people whose children went to this event… that there were people snorting drugs off people’s foreheads… that there were so many people that were completely out of it”, he said.
There were 103 arrests at the Stereosonic event in Brisbane previous year and 15 people were taken to hospital.
Earlier, police said a small quantity of drugs had been confiscated at the festival but they were pleased with the behaviour of the more than 10,000 people in attendance.
They also said two festival-goers were expected to be charged on summons with assault, while two others were issued with penalty notices for being drunk. “Whatever works. It could be useful”.
