Dozens killed in bombing raids in eastern Syria: Syrian Observatory for Human
Russian airmen have been recorded inscribing “That’s for Paris” on the side of one of the bombs they plan to use against IS in Syria.
Another bomb, seen in a video released today by the Russian Defence Ministry, bears the message “For our guys”.
France has reportedly sent the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean to step up strikes in retaliation for the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people.
Putin hailed the military’s performance, but added that “there is still a lot of work to do…to rid Syria of militants and terrorists and protect Russian Federation from possible terror attacks”.
Russia this week launched massive strikes on Raqqa in response to confirmation that the group had blown up a plane full of Russian tourists over Sinai in Egypt. Lebanese national carrier Middle East Airlines said some flights to Gulf Arab states would take longer because alternative routes would be taken.
Russian Federation has been launching airstrikes on various targets of the so called “Islamic State”, or ISIL, in Syria since the end of September.
Russia continues to beef up their frequency and bombing, destroying oil facilities and tankers controlled by ISIS, thus cutting into their income, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
A US-led coalition is also carrying out strikes against Daesh in Iraq and Syria, where the militant group has declared a cross-border “caliphate” spanning territory it controls in the two countries.
The report came as Russian Federation yesterday unleashed cruise missiles from warships in the Caspian Sea at targets across Syria, the defence minister said, as Moscow kept up its intensified bombardments in the war-torn country.
Russian Federation says its intervention is aimed at helping the Syrian government defeat the Islamic State group, but local activists and US officials say the strikes have also targeted Western-backed rebels fighting to overthrow Assad.
Russia’s air force flew 394 sorties and hit 731 targets in Syria in the last three days, Interfax news agency cited the head of the Russian air group in Syria as saying on Friday.
