DPD lays out timeline of Love Field shooting
Suspect, named Diamond, attacked a woman & threatened the officer with large rocks.
Police said the shooting stemmed from domestic dispute.
Authorities said 29-year-old Shawn Nicholas Diamond of Maryland was using large rocks to smash auto windows and threaten the mother of his children when an officer arrived on the scene.
An officer-involved shooting prompted a lockdown Friday afternoon at Dallas Love Field Airport.
Police say Diamond is in stable condition.
While driving to the airport, Diamond becomes angry and hits his ex-girlfriend, she tells police.
Video images of the woman’s auto showed broken windows and numerous dents but police said she was not hurt.
Video posted on Instagram shows officers responding about 12:20 p.m. with their guns drawn. When Diamond darted around the officer, the officer shot him and ordered him to stay down, Brown said. When the man threatened and charged at the officer, the man was shot, police said. Another officer is seen on the video brandishing a stun gun but apparently never fired it. It’s Dallas’s second busiest airport behind Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport.
Investigators said Diamond was recently released from jail on a criminal mischief charge.
Jolene DeVito, police media specialist for the Carrollton PD, said he was charged with criminal mischief while driving recklessly and crashed his vehicle on the 3700 block of Marsh Lane.
As of Friday afternoon, Love Field had the second-largest variety of air travels delayed of any USA airport after Los Angeles International, at 50 or 14 percent of its departures, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.com.
Five more shots follow, and you hear a woman scream. He says the officer was able to get away before he was rushed again by the man. Blankenbaker says the officer then fired his weapon at the man several times.
During the drive, Brown said, Diamond hit the woman.
The officer who opened fire will be placed on administrative leave, under department policy for an investigation into the shooting, police said.
Airport officials were not immediately available for comment. Beattie said the officer who fired the shots is a Dallas police veteran, but he would not identify him.
Baggage claim remains closed, but other parts of the airport had been reopened. Spokesman Jose Torres said some people, after hearing shots, ran through security so everyone had to be rescreened.
