Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Passed away in Shillong!
A large number of people gathered in front of the former President’s house to offer their condolences and mourn his death.
The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with the bereaved family of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in their hour of grief and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
“The former president was delivering a lecture on “liveable planet” when he suddenly collapsed”, IIM-Shillong official Merlvin Mukhim told IANS. Where we lost a great person and a great scientist.
Born on October 15, 1931 at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, specialized in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology. “He was an inspiration to an entire generation”, he said. “He has left a big void hard to fill”, he added. Cause of his untimely death, which occured while he was addressing a function in Shillong.
He also played a pivotal technical and political role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, shortly after the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government came to power. Conferred with India’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna in 1997, the “Missile Man Of India” drove rapid modernisation of India’s missile launching capabilities.
