Dr. Dre’s ‘Compton’ will fund new art center
BILLIONAIRE RAPPER Dr Dre will donate royalties from his new album to the city of Compton, California, for a new performing arts facility.
During his radio show on Saturday, Dr. Dre said his latest project was inspired by the new movie based on N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton.
Dre revealed that he had reached out to Compton Mayor Aja Brown in recent months to ask how he could give back to his hometown.
Now the interesting part is that Dre will be donating his new album proceeds to an art center in Compton.
Surprise! 16 years have passed since Dr. Dre put out a record, so he decided to release his new album one day ahead of schedule! Two singles (“Kush” and “I Need A Doctor”) were released from that album, but apparently it won’t be seeing the light of day anytime soon.Dr. Dre. also hinted on that this would be his last album writing on Twitter that it was “my grand finale”. In 2014, Brown made a public plea for Dre’s help when she told celebrity news website TMZ that she had offered the key to the city of Compton to Dre in celebration of his success in the spheres of music and business. The album will serve as a soundtrack for the upcoming movie “Straight Outta Compton“, which follows the rise and fall of NWA.
He will be working with none other than the Mayor of Compton, Aja Brown for arts center.
“Compton” will debut on Apple Music Thursday night at 6 p.m. PST, streaming on loop for three hours before officially dropping Friday, August 7. His 2011 song “Kill you” alludes to some eye-popping lyrics, most notably ones highly criticized for their demeaning nature against women.
Compton features Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Ice Cube, Jill Scott and Marsha Ambrosius.
Dre was actually working on something he labeled, “Detox”, which he credited as his “final album”. I worked my a*s off on it, I don’t think I did a good enough job, and I couldn’t do that to my fans and I couldn’t do that to myself, to be perfectly honest with you. “The reason “Detox” didn’t come out was because I didn’t like it”.
