Dr. Dre’s ex-girlfriend talks ‘abusive’ past

Dee Barnes recently wrote an essay for Gawker, speaking in detail about the 1991 incident where Dre assaulted her, a moment in N.W.A history that doesn’t appear at all in the film. The film’s version of Dr. Dre has trouble with the mother of his child, and is shown leading Los Angeles cops on a high-speed chase, but is also the right-minded crusader against his Death Row Records partner Suge Knight, trying to shut down dog fights and get back to work.
Quoting from the screenplay, the paper describes a scene in which Dre, “eyes glazed, drunk, with an edge of nastiness, contempt”, confronts Barnes verbally.
If you listen to the lyrics of ‘A (expletive) Iz a (expletive),’ Cube says, ‘Now the title (expletive) don’t apply to all women / But all women have a little (expletive) in ’em.’ So which is it? The biggest problem with Straight Outta Compton is that it ignores several of NWA’s own harsh realities.
“We couldn’t get everything into the movie”, he said. We sat across the table and he started talking to me and I heard him like, ‘What the is that?’ I’m saying this shit internally. “Sell us out”, The Times reported.
Dre: I thought we were cool, you and me, but you don’t give a [expletive]. “I know how to do it. I know how to make my voice project and I know how to stay on beat and what have you, but I’ve never considered myself a rapper”.
Barnes said she was able to make peace with Eazy a few months before he passed away.
“With the exception of short scenes with mother figures and wives, the rest of the women in the film were naked in a hotel room or dancing in the background at the wild pool parties”. “We made the one we wanted to make”.
“The truth is too ugly for a general audience,” Barnes wrote on Gawker.
Her point being, they didn’t have to show the actual assault (she herself didn’t want to relive it on screen, as she states), but they should’ve at least addressed it, instead of leaving it out entirely.
Watch Michel’le’s exclusive interviews with VLAD TV below where she also reveals Dr. Dre shot at her one night during an argument.
Dr Dre has addressed these incidents and other accusations about his past in a wide-ranging interview with Rolling Stone.
“I made some f***ing terrible mistakes in my life”, says Dre.
He added: “I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are”.
As great as the movie was, there’s still been some push-back, because many important factors in the crew’s success and demise were left out.
