Dr Dre to donate Compton royalties to arts centre
A week after the album drops, the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton will follow suit in theaters.
“The city is ecstatic; the city is really, really happy and pleased that Dr. Dre has decided to help spear the next generation of young performers, young entrepreneurs coming out of the city of Compton“, Cannick said.
Dre also announced today that he will take all royalties he earns from this album and put them towards funding a new performing arts facility in Compton, California.
The album, called Compton, is Dre’s first in 16 years and will be available on the Internet this Friday.
The 50-year-old icon’s new album premieres tonight at 9 p.m. EST on Apple Music, where it will play uncensored on a loop for three hours.
“I feel it’s the correct thing to do and I trust everyone welcomes the work I put into this collection”, Dre said.
The six-time Grammy award winning rapper talked about working with his protégés on the new album.
Mayor Brown has released additional information about the center, which will “provide a pathway for creative expression…while providing a much-needed safe haven for our youth”.

Dr. Dre, who sold his popular Beats music company to Apple for about billion, has referred to the “Compton” album as his “grand finale, ” reported Rolling Stone.
