Dr Dre to donate new album royalties to fund an arts centre
The American rapper is about to release his first album in 16 years called Compton, after the area of California he grew up in.
This new album by Dr. Dre is also said to be the official soundtrack of the upcoming movie, Straight Outta Compton.
The artist was quoted in an AP report as saying, “I have been really trying to do something special for Compton and just could not quite figure out what it was”.
Together with this philanthropic act, Dr. Dre would be helped by Compton Mayor Aja Brown. “And I said, “Boom”.
Dr. Dre hasn’t forgotten his roots.
With the option to stream before buying combined with the fact that it has been nearly two decades since Dre released an album, some may be wondering just how well “Compton” is going to fare in terms of sales. He’s got his all-time standout artists like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, The Game, and Xzibit, along with 12 other guest spots, including his newer artists like King Mez, Jon Connor, and of course Kendrick Lamar. The mogul revealed that he’ll be working with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and her office on the center. The album was premiered a day prior to its release and was available for streaming over a three hour period exclusively on Apple Music. “I don’t think I did a good enough job”, he added.
Dr. Dre stated that this project will be his last, mentioning that it is a “grande finale” which is sure to cause disappointment amongst his most loyal fans as well as followers of hip-hop. “It’s inspired by Straight Outta Compton, and I’m really proud of this”. During a radio interview, Dre announced he wanted to do something special for his hometown. I’m gonna keep it all-the-way 1,000 with you, seriously.
The track list for Compton, due to be released in short order this Friday, August 7, on Apple Music, puts those fears to rest.
On top of that, this new album has already received heaps of praise in both critical reviews and from fans.
