Dr. Dre to release new album, his first in sixteen years
NWA members included Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella and Eazy-E. When asked if the film’s score will include any new music or just revamped and reworked classics, Cube shares that Dr. Dre himself is working on a few new material, set to drop in the near future (August 1, to be exact). Sources in the US, however, are saying that it won’t be with us quite that quickly.
Dre, after all, has been promising an album since 1999, the year in which he released 2001.
The day Ice alludes to is August 1, although Rolling Stone believe it’ll be released at a later date.
“It’s mega, you know, it’s Dr. Dre, it’s what everybody been waiting for”, Ice Cube revealed. His third album, long-rumoured to be titled Detox, has been continually been put back for the last 16 years.
Director F. Gary Gray confirmed Eminem and Kendrick Lamar are involved in the soundtrack in an interview with MTV. “It’s definitely a dope record”.
“Actually, Dre is dropping an inspired album, inspired by Compton“. His reported next album, Detox, hasn’t been released.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Ice Cube spoke on the possibility of an N.W.A reunion tour. He talks about the soundtrack around the 10 minute mark. None other than the cast of Straight Outta Compton. Fans of the seminal group shouldn’t be too downhearted though as Ice Cube stated, “It’s definitely, definitely possible”.
