Dr Dre tops UK albums chart for the first time with Compton
Dre said his critically acclaimed third studio album was inspired by the sounds and sights of his iconic hometown. Straight Outta Compton, which chronicles the rise and fall of hip hop group N.W.A. (a lineup that consisted of Dr. Dre, Arabian Prince, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren), has sold 56.1 million tickets in its opening week.
When Apple introduced its new streaming service, Apple Music, at the end of June, one of the big questions hanging over it was whether it could compete with outlets such as Spotify to deliver blockbuster results for big new albums.
Given such exceptional sales results, Apple Music could be considered a platform that could effectively compete with established players in the music industry.

Compton, which the 50 year-old rapper has devoted to his Californian birthplace of the identical identify, outperformed its nearest rivals by over 28,000 mixed chart gross sales, the Official Charts Company stated. Since then, the new Dr. Dre album has enjoyed heavy promotion through iTunes and Apple Music.
Meanwhile, Dr Dre continues to rack up more revenue worldwide, as the tweet below suggests. Previously Dre’s highest charting album in the UK had been his last release 2001, which took the number four spot in 1999. The phenomenon is highlighted when Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s recent albums got 39 million and 48 million streams, respectively, in their first week of launch, which was largely made possible due to the availability of their albums on more than one platform, unlike the recently released “Compton” album.
