Draft Biden PAC to run first ad, urging ‘Joe, Run’
It will mostly be featured on CNN, in the lead-up to the network’s airing of the first Democratic presidential primary debate next Tuesday.
He will announce his decision this weekend, unless he doesn’t.
Less than twelve hours later, Biden’s tone was decidedly more optimistic.
At the moment Draft Biden – which by law the vice president’s advisers can not coordinate their efforts with – is the only political entity devoted to Biden. However, Biden’s office denied these claims. A few speculation has been born out of the fact that he himself leaked to Maureen Dowd that Beau told him to run while he was on his deathbed.
The ad, produced by veteran Democratic adman Mark Putnam, is meant to inspire and tug on heartstrings, showing intimate images of Biden with his family.
If Joe Biden is planning a bid to become the Democrats’ presidential nominee, he should wait to make a formal declaration of his candidacy until after next week, strategists are saying.
Biden has defended the deal and lobbied Democratic lawmakers a year ago to give Obama fast-track authority.
Instead, he now seems more like a dignified elder statesman who has conquered life’s toughest blows and is still standing.
The speech brings his recent personal tragedy to the forefront as well. “The American people are already with you”. It’s more interesting to cover candidates who offer insightful analyses of the state of the nation and interesting policy prescriptions to address them. For all his talk of his humble upbringing in Scranton, Pa., and his celebrated common-man persona, the vice president is an establishment Democrat all the way to his core. In an unexpected development, it has emerged that Joe Biden might have inadvertently politicized the issue of his son’s death. “But it will be a very short run”. But all of those reasons to run come from other people.
The same source said Joe Biden’s actions in the last two months ‘feel like a ramp up, not a ramp down’.
Then there is also the question of what Mr. Biden would hope to accomplish by running and what impact it would have.
And there are women who aren’t sure that they’re ready for the change in societal roles that Clinton portends.
Another consideration weighing against a Biden run are the challenging politics. Until Clinton starting falling in the polls, he had not been expected to run. Yet he’s publicly supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership, jeopardizing his support from unions if he enters the race. The Iowa caucuses, for example, have no filing deadline at all.
Draft Biden is spending six figures to purchase national airtime for the 90-second video, said Josh Alcorn, a top Draft Biden organizer and former Beau Biden political director. The Washington Post discussed Clinton’s status in the polls by noting how as the campaign goes on, Democratic support for Hillary will improve, especially when she has a clear Republican opponent.
