Drake’s owns 2015’s first platinum album
Who was the first?
The last artist to breach a million was Taylor Swift’s 1989 in November 2014. Drake had previously announced that he would release his studio album, Views From The 6 this year too, but there’s been no word on a release date.
Rapper Drake’s latest album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late has become America’s first platinum release of the year.
Celebrating the landmark achievement, Drake posted a picture on Instagram alongside the comment: “Platinum off the tape”. Even though he released the album without warning, this didn’t stop Drizzy devotees from purchasing the project and taking it to the top of the Billboard 200 chart after its first week of being out. On Monday, it sold more than one million copies. “Views up next. Thank you once again”, he wrote along with emojis of wads of cash.
But it’s all in good musical competition with Swifty.
Don’t expect him to get a congratulatory tweet from Meek Mill, though.
Their lyrical battle only proved why Drake has not one but four million-selling albums, which also includes 2013’s “Nothing Was the Same” as well as “Take Care” and “Thank Me Later“, both released in 2010.
