Hurricane Maria maintained a category 3 status Saturday morning, slowly moving north and away from the Bahamas with maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. Global flights will not resume until Monday.
Maria was the second major hurricane to hit the Caribbean this month and the strongest storm to hit the US territory of Puerto Rico in almost 90 years.

Gov. Cuomo boarded a plane to Puerto Rico Friday morning with a raft of aid workers on a mission to assess the damage wreaked by Hurricane Maria and help the devastated island. The flight is due to land early Friday afternoon.
Risky surf and rip currents driven by the storm were expected along the southeastern coast of the U.S mainland for several days, the National Hurricane Center said.
The hurricane traveled directly over the island of Dominica, while also almost making landfall in Guadeloupe.
